How to Decorate Nightstands

Your bedroom nightstand is often the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see each morning, so it's important the nightstand be pleasant to see. Your nightstand may already include such standard items as a lamp, alarm clock and photo of a loved one. Beyond these staples, however, you can customize your nightstand to give it some of your personality. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Cover the nightstand in a soft piece of fabric you like, especially if your nightstand is old or damaged. Match the material to the overall color scheme of your bedroom. For example, if you have red curtains, cover the nightstand in a piece of thick, red velvet.

    2

Place one or more scented candles on the nightstand. Pillar candles and votives are equally suitable. Try to match the color of the candles to the overall theme in your bedroom. Choose a scent that is not overpowering, as a candle that is too strong may affect your sleep.

    3

Set a vase on the nightstand filled with fresh cut flowers. Gardeners will enjoy using their homegrown flowers as bedroom decor, but any flowers are ideal. If you're decorating a guest room for the arrival of a friend or family member, fresh flowers will help make your guest feel welcome. Realistic artificial flowers are easy to maintain if you don't want the trouble of real flowers.

    4

Display statues or figurines that relate to your personality or interests. Depending on the size of your nightstand, you may be able to fit only one such statue. Women may enjoy figurines, while men may want die-cast car models, and children can use figurines of their favorite cartoon characters.
