How do I Cook With Gas to Electric Conversion Tables?

How do I Cook With Gas to Electric Conversion Tables?

Avoid burned or underdone food by properly converting your recipes from a gas to electric oven. Different countries rely on a variety of means to measure the temperature settings of cooking appliances. Gas ovens use gas marks, especially in Europe, while their electric counterparts measure temperature in degrees Celsius or Fahrenheit. Armed with a conversion table, you can switch from one type of oven to another simply, without having to do extensive calculations. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Instructions

    1

Look at your recipe for the required gas mark.

    2

Consult a conversion table for the gas mark, and look for the Celsius and Fahrenheit equivalents. For instance, if your gas mark is 2, a conversion table equates that to 150 degrees Celsius and 300 degrees Fahrenheit.

    3

Preheat your electric oven to the Fahrenheit or Celsius temperature based on your oven's calibration: C or F. Look at the letter on the temperature knob or display: C stands for temperatures measured in Celsius, and F for Fahrenheit.

    4

Allow your electric oven to preheat for at least 10 to 15 minutes to ensure that it has reached the proper cooking temperature.

    5

Cook your food in the preheated oven for the same amount of time required in your recipe at the gas mark.
