Dinning Room Decorating Tips

Dinning Room Decorating Tips

Whether you use your dining room everyday or only on special occasions, you want a stylish and comfortable place to share meals with family and friends. Before redecorating, choose two or three colors to use throughout your dining room. You may want to first choose a fabric for your tablecloth, and then use colors present in the tablecloth's pattern to accent with. Once your dining room is decorated, avoid using the table or other dining furniture as a catch-all for mail, purses, backpacks and other clutter. Does this Spark an idea?

Tablecloths

Tablecloths can dress up your dining room. If the table is a hand-me-down or has aged, a tablecloth can bring new life to the table. Choose a cotton tablecloth with a pattern that complements the wall and floor colors. Cotton place mats, cloth napkins and napkin rings should match the tablecloth.

Chair Makeovers

Add chair cushions to chairs to add comfort and interest to plain wooden chairs. Choose a solid color that matches your tablecloth. If your chairs need a total facelift, cover the chairs with decorative chair covers. Choose a washable fabric to simplify cleanup.

Paint

To liven up your dining room space, paint the walls. If you have an open house plan, choose one wall closest to your dining table to paint as an accent wall. Decorator Secrets asserts that red is one of the most widely used colors in a dining room because of its propensity to stimulate conversations and appetites.

Other Options

Add a sideboard cabinet or china cabinet to store and/or showcase dishes. Hang a decorative mirror in the dining room to create a nice focal point. Hang decorative plates on plain walls to add interest. Also, to create the illusion of a separate dining room in an open plan, use an area rug to define the dining area.
