Nightstands are an essential part of bedroom furniture, regardless of whether you're 7 or 70. You need a place for a bedside lamp, a book, clock, phone and possibly glasses and tissues. A round table is one of the most functional types of nightstand. You can paint the top in a baseball or a flower motif for a young child's room, or add a luxurious cover that matches the bedspread for a chic, sophisticated look. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
Build the Base
- 1
Cut four legs 23-1/4 inch long from the 2-by-2 inch boards. Cut 8 apron pieces 9-1/2 inches long from the 1-by-3 inch boards. Cut 5 slat boards 12 inches long from 1-by-3 inch boards.
2Create 2 side assemblies by joining legs together with apron pieces. Position one apron piece flush with the top of the leg, and centered between the leg sides. Glue and screw into place through the leg, countersinking the screws with the drill bit. Position the bottom apron 3-3/4 inches from the bottom of the leg. Glue and screw this piece into place.
3Join these two side assemblies together using the remaining apron pieces. Glue and screw these pieces into place at the same locations as the side apron pieces.
4Mark notches around the legs for the two outer slat boards. These will sit on the bottom apron pieces. Space the remaining pieces across the apron and screw all the pieces into place.
Assemble the Nighstand
- 5
Cut the top panel, if necessary, to 18 inches round.
6Lay the top panel on the floor, right side down. Use a framing square to locate the center of the panel, and mark the location.
7Turn the base upside down and center it on top of the panel. Mark its location.
8Turn the nightstand right side up. Apply a bead of glue to the top of the legs and apron on the base and position the top correctly, following your markings.
9Screw the top onto the legs, countersinking the screws.
10Fill in all the screw holes with wood putty. Sand the entire piece and prime and paint.
11Attach glides to each foot to protect the floors.
