How to Convert Temperature to Millivolts

While temperature is often measured in degrees using the Celsius, Kelvin or Fahrenheit scales, temperature may also be measured in millivolts. Millivolts represent one-thousandth of a volt and are produced by thermocouples. Thermocouples are junctions between two different types of metal. The voltage created by the two different metals in the thermocouple can be used to calculate temperature. Fortunately, there are a variety of different tools that can all perform the conversion of temperature to millivolts.

    Navigate to the Minco thermocouple calculator page. Select the type of thermocouple used and then click the "Select Table Type" button. Next, select "temperature vs. Voltage" from the "Table Type" menu and then press the "Go to Table Options" button. Choose the scale that will be used for the temperature and the increment size for the millivolts and press the "Click Here to Generate Table" button. Select a temperature on the table to reveal its millivolt equivalent.

    Download the free conversion utility from CCPI Incorporated. Launch the convertor and enter the temperature figure in Celsius or Fahrenheit to receive the millivolt figure. While the temperature figure can simply be entered in the appropriately labeled box in the converter, the type of metal used in the thermocouple is required for the converter to work properly.

    Navigate to the thermocouple tables website and select the table for the appropriate thermocouple. Next, choose either Fahrenheit or Celsius and click on the correct PDF file. Find the correct temperature from the vertical column of the table and then identify the millivolt conversion by reading horizontally to the right.
