How to Create a Vanity Dresser

How to Create a Vanity Dresser

A vanity dresser in the bedroom adds a touch of old Hollywood glamor to the space. But sometimes a vanity can be a bit pricey. If you would like to make a vanity dresser, the supplies necessary to do so are available at places as diverse as the lumber store and local real estate sales. By choosing paint colors, as well as decorative elements like lamps and mirrors to match your decorating style, you can create a vanity dresser that fits your decor but doesn't cost you very much. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Locate two small end or bedside tables with drawers. These should match. They don't need to be expensive tables, as you will probably want to paint them.

    2

Create a vanity top. You can make one from a slab of board that is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches thick. It should be long enough to go over the two end tables and a space between them where you will sit to do your hair and makeup. It should be wide enough to cover the end tables. Find the lumber at a lumber yard or home-improvement store. Look for solid wood, instead of particle board, which doesn't take paint very well. Once you put the board in place you should be able to push a chair under the board and between the two tables.

    3

Paint the end tables and the wooden board. You might consider special painting techniques such as marbling. Allow the paint to dry according to the instructions on the paint can. Place the board on top of the two tables.

    4

Hang a decorative mirror on the wall above the vanity table. Look for a mirror that matches your decorating style and furniture. For example, if your bedroom colors are silver and black, look for a mirror that has a silver or black frame. Make sure it is large enough for you to see your whole face and shoulders. One large enough to show your upper body is a bonus.

    5

Buy two lamps that complement your decorating style and place them on each side of the vanity. Consider lamps that have adjustable brightness so that you can vary your makeup from daylight to nighttime.
