How to Design a Computer Table

A properly designed computer table can mean the difference between a comfortable work environment and one that makes it difficult to get anything done. People too often settle for a computer table that is inadequate for their needs, when in reality it is not difficult to design one yourself that will provide the needed level of comfort and satisfaction.

Examine the space available for your computer table. Decide on how much space you will allocate to the table, and write down the appropriate measurements.

Perform an inventory on what you will be placing on the desk, including your computer and peripherals, and what types of things will be done at the table.

Sketch out a basic layout for the table surface that will fit within your allotted space and meet your needs. Keep in mind any special ergonomic issues that may play a role in approaching, sitting at or getting up from the table.

Measure the height of the chair you plan to use at the computer table, and design the height of the table so that it allows the chair to fit underneath it.

Sketch a design for any special features on the table that may be required for your particular computer and its related peripherals.

Calculate the cost of your computer table, based on your measurements and designs and the cost of your chosen materials.
