How to Build Your Own Antler Table Lamp

How to Build Your Own Antler Table Lamp

Using deer antlers to make an artistic table lamp is perhaps something you thought only professionals could do. Because of their expensive price tag, many people are taking on the task of creating the lamps themselves. Although it might sound a little overwhelming at first, the most important thing to keep is mind is the money you will be saving and the pride you will feel from creating something on your own. There are a few simple guidelines that will get you on your way to making your own antler table lamp. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Collect 10 to 30 deer antlers. You will want to use antlers that are not too large due to the small scale of a table lamp. If you are a deer hunter you may have your own collection of antlers to choose from, but if not, ask any friends or family who hunt if you can make use of their old horns.

    2

Purchase a standard table lamp at your local home improvement store. Stray away from a lamp that is too elegant (i.e. crystal) and lean toward a lamp that is made of a more rustic material (i.e. wood). You will be decorating the base of the lamp with deer antlers, so be sure that the base is relatively wide. A rectangular shaped lamp will work the best. Also purchase hot glue, a glue gun and linseed oil.

    3

Begin attaching the antlers to the base of the lamp in an interlocking fashion. Each antler will require a strip of hot glue and must be held in place for 10 to 15 seconds. There is no detailed explanation for attaching the antlers as each antler table lamp is unique. Add as many or as few antlers as you see fit.

    4

Wait for the antler table lamp to dry for a few hours. Use a soft cloth to rub linseed oil onto the antlers to give them a nice shine.
