How to Redo a Table Lamp

How to Redo a Table Lamp

If your home needs a little brightening, try a new table lamp. Instead of buying a table lamp at a home-decor store, find a thrifty second-hand lamp and transform it in your own DIY style. Re-do a table lamp and give it the face-lift of a lifetime with only a few simple changes. You don't need any significant artistic talent in order to take a table lamp from drab to fab in no time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Remove the lamp shade, light bulb and any metal parts that will come off easily from the old lamp. Set them aside.

    2

Cover the cord and any metal parts (the switch or the brackets that hold the shade in place) with painter's tape to protect them.

    3

Spray the lamp base with a coat of spray paint in your choice of colors. Let the paint dry and then spray another coat if needed for full coverage.

    4

Cut small pieces of decorative fabrics that match your lamp shade (as a general approach, cut squares or circles that are approximately 2 to 4 inches on all sides).

    5

Paint a thin layer of decoupage glue on a small section of the lamp shade. Layer pieces of the fabrics you cut previously on top of the glue. Repeat this process until the entire shade is covered in fabric, then coat the entire thing with another layer of decoupage glue to seal it. Allow it to dry completely.

    6

Reassemble the parts of the lamp and plug it in.
