How to Use a Console Table As a Desk

How to Use a Console Table As a Desk

Consoles are tables usually designed to hold specific materials, such as electronic equipment, so that they are readily available for use in that area of the home. Many consoles do not have drawers and can only store items on their tabletop. To convert a console to a desk, you will need to incorporate other means of storage if you require more of a desk than just a workspace. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Move the console to a home office or place in the home that is conducive to work, whether it's a side room or a corner of a bedroom. Make sure the console is situated near a working outlet for plugging in any electronic work materials.

    2

Place an office chair at the console. Select a chair that works with the height of the console, or use a chair with adjustable heights.

    3

Place office accessories (such as a desk calendar and pen cup) and work materials (such as writing utensils, paper, a computer) on the console's tabletop. Organize these items in a logical system, placing frequently used items at the front and center and items you use less often toward the back. Keep electronics within range of the power outlet.

    4

Create additional storage space by storing other materials you would put in a desk drawer inside organized boxes, stored near the desk. You may also use a commercial drawer storage system, a self-contained unit of wooden or plastic drawers that can fit beneath a desk. Measure the height of the console before purchasing such a system to be sure the unit will fit beneath the console.
