How to Make a Dining Table Into an Office Desk

How to Make a Dining Table Into an Office Desk

Recycling furniture for different uses offers a budget-friendly option for redecorating various rooms of your home such as an office. A dining table can provide a dual purpose as a place to eat and can be transformed into a desk to create a workspace for computer usage or conferences. You can style a dining room table with office supplies, lighting and enhancements to pull a professional or casual home office look together. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Pull a desk chair up to the dining room table. Sit in the chair and mimic typing or writing at the table to gauge whether you need to make changes in the height of the table when turning it into a desk. Optimal desk height ranges between 22 and 30 inches, while dining table heights are typically about 30 inches high.

    2

Turn the table over and saw the legs down to the appropriate height if you don't plan to use the table for dining again. Use an adjustable desk chair to eliminate the need to resize the height of the table if you don't want to do something permanent.

    3

Arrange the table caddy corner between two walls or push the back of the table against one wall, with the one side flush against the adjacent wall. Another option is to center the table in an area of an office that is not against walls. This take up more space in the room; however, allows for placing other chairs or couches facing the desk for meetings.

    4

Set up a laptop or desktop computer and a printer on the table. Add a desk lamp, phone and office supply organizers for writing utensils, printer paper and files. Decorate the desk with items such as plant or flowers in a vase, framed photos, a desktop clock, small globe and candles. Add a desk chair with wheels for mobility, if desired. Arrange book ends on the desk to line books in between or Install wall shelving to store office items, books and decor on, if necessary.
